Poker Tourney Update

We have secured Friday February 26th for the poker tournament. The registration will begin at 6:00pm with the tournament starting at 7:00pm. We are hosting the tournament with two other teams - the Diamond Kings and the Scorpions.

Instructions about selling tickets, selling raffle tickets, and getting a raffle donation will be sent to you soon via email.

Just wanted to get this basic information out since it's really not that far away!

Game 9/29/09

We will have a game tomorrow!
Please arrive at 6:00pm. Gametime 6:15pm.
Location is at Platte Purchase - Field #9

Please have your son wear his uniform (jersey, pants, socks, hat, etc).

There won't be enough time to do pictures tomorrow - so we will figure out another date to do them.

Christy Dillman is bringing snacks for the kids.

No game today 9/26

AGAIN, no game today due to the unfortunate timing of the rain! The field has a nice river of water from first to almost home. However, if it drys out the least bit, we do have the the Barry Platte field reserved tomorrow at 5:30pm. So if anyone wants to practice, Ty and I will be there (just check the blog for any updates/changes). Also, I wil try and see if the Knights are available for this Tuesday for a practice game at Platte Purchase Field #9, 6:15 game time. I will keep you posted.

Next Game

Our next game will be Tuesday Sept 22nd at Platte-Purchase, Field #9 at 6:15pm. PLEASE HAVE YOUR SON WEAR HIS UNIFORM JERSEY! Arrive at field at 6:00pm.

Our last game will be Saturday Sept 26th at Barry Platte at 11:00am. Please arrive at the field at 10:00am as we will be doing pictures. Have your son in his jersey, white pants, black socks, black belt, and hat. You will be emailed the order form to bring to the game.

Open Practice this Sunday

Coach Bobby will hold an open practice this Sunday from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. It is NOT mandatory - but he would like to invite anyone who wants some extra batting time to please feel free to join. In case of rain, please make sure to contact Bobby (preferably text) prior to leaving to make sure practice is still on. Location WILL BE AT BARRY-PLATTE PARK (WHERE WE HAD OUR LAST GAME).

Yet, again, another change!

There will be no game on Tues Sept 15th. We will have practice at 6:00pm at Platte Purchase instead. For those of you who can make it, we'll see you then!

GAME Tues Sept 15th

Bobby spoke to the coach of the other team last evening and he stated that his team could not play next Saturday (the 19th) due to parents signing their kids up for soccer.

So it appears that we will have our next scrimmage game this TUESDAY September 15th at 6:30pm. The location has not been determined, but there were discussions about having it at Park Hill.

Please stay tuned - but just wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible that we will be having another game Tuesday.

Thank you for everyone's patience as these last minute changes/decisions keep coming up! Your boys are doing AWESOME and we hope they are having fun!

Srimmage Game September 12

Srimmage game Saturday, September 12th, at 1:00pm - Barry Platte Park (Barry Road and Old Stagecoach Road). Parking is limited at the Park, so please use the overflow parking at the elementary just east if necessary (the school parking is best accessed from 87th and Platte Purchase).

Scrimmage Tuesday Sept 8th

We will again scrimmage on Tuesday, September 8th at 6:15 (game will start at 6:30). Again, please have your child wear any color blue t-shirt for this game. We will play at Park Hill High School, on the west side of the school. The coach of the Knights told me that he has the practice field, next to the 2 girls softball fields, reserved for Tuesday. Apparently the field is just "average at best" and has no bleachers...so bring lawn chairs. Looking forward to seeing you there!

08/25/09 KC Dirtbags 6 vs. 6 Scrimmage

Here are all the photos I took at the Scrimmage game last week. I tried to get several of each player, some are really good and a few they have eyes closed, etc. Since I am a scrapbooker I have to have them all, so I put every photo in slide show. Baseball Pants

He got a size SMALL. They fit him awesome.

Washed them for the first time last night and the material is ok - not super best quality though.

Next Practice will be Tues 8/25

Rain, Rain

Well, the plan is to check the league Rainout line on Tuesday to see if the fields will be available for practice (you can check it too if you would like, the link is on our blog). If we cannot practice Tuesday, we will definitely find another day to squeeze in.

Got word that the league may move first Fall games into next week (Tues or Wed) due to the rain this week. So we may not have our first game this Saturday as we had originally thought.

8/11/09 Practice Recap & upcoming practice info

On our 2nd practice, The Dirtbags faced the Heat from Mother Nature. The kids worked really hard on more baseball fundamentals - and I was proud that they stuck with the coaches through the hot temps.

The "Practice Prize" has officially become a Dirtbag tradition and also a "hit" with the boys! This weeks winners of baseball cards for the most accurate throw to First Base was Palmer F. #9 and Jackson G. #15. Great throw kids!!! Our big hitters from practice and owners of a miniature Dirtbag bat were Brody H. #4, Andrew H. #11 and Lucas D. #18.

The Coaches have really seen many positive things from our team and can’t wait to see the boys in action for years to come. Keep up the GREAT work Dirtbags and the same to all the parents. Keep practicing with your child –catching, fielding, throwing and hitting. IT REALLY SHOWS WHO IS WORKING HARD OUTSIDE OF PRACTICE.

OTHER NEWS :
We should be receiving our schedule soon, but I have heard that we will play on Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoons. Our first game is possibly Saturday, Aug. 22, so pencil the date in! Once we receive a schedule I will send it to you all immediately.

I wanted to mention again that we are looking for sponsors. We would like to get our sponsor banner going soon but only have a few businesses so far. Thanks ahead of time for your willingness to seek donations for our team.

Practice tonight

Just wanted to remind you all practice is tonight at 6:00pm. Remember to bring water!

Also, don't feel like your son has to wear baseball pants at practice tonight. It's too hot and we won't be doing any sliding. Just dress him comfortable.

Practice Recap

With our first practice under our belts, I wanted to give a big hand to all the Lil' Dirtbags. The kids did a great job hanging with the coaches and battling the heat. I think I can speak for all of the coaches and say we saw a lot of good things from this team. We may be little and young, but the kids all have big hearts and a ton of desire!

I heard so many funny things from these kids but the three that stand out are: Dawson K., the first winner of the practice prize, must of asked me 20 times if he could have the prize and what it was. So Dawson must have been destin to win it - Great throw Dawson K, you are also the winner of a new nickname "Questions". Second, when Brody H. was asked who his favorite baseball player was (during stretch time), he replied "Babe Ruth." Not sure if he knows who Babe Ruth was, but I loved the answer! Last, when Matty W. was asked what his last name was, he replied Mikey. Well Mikey is actually his older brother, but I thought it was a funny response.

A recap of practice through a little chaos: At the first station, the kids worked on throwing the ball and attempting to hit a bucket. This fundamental drill was to work on proper throwing, arm strength, and accuracy. The second station, the kids were working on fielding with Coach Kevin. The kids were getting in the proper fielding position and fielding the ball in front of them and using their throwing hand to secure the ball in the glove "alligator". Lastly, the kids hit live pitching, some for the first time, and did a great job.

A short recap of the quick parents meeting:

1.) We need sponsors! Sponsors will be displayed on our future sponsor banner.
2.) Any type of money donation will be gladly accepted.
3.) Financial expenses and donations will ALWAYS be transparent.
4.) Uniforms - will be in soon. Thanks to Jenn Wolz for all of her hard work. The jersey tops will have a lot of wiggle room, but they are the smallest jersey on the market. This should allow a few seasons in this jersey.
5.) Fundraising: NO candy bar sales!!!! Coming soon information about Super Bowl Jackpot and a Poker Tournament (Febuary 2010).
6.) Parent T-shirts and ball caps are available through Jenn Wolz. Carly Hufft will be introducing some baseball clothing items as well.

Practice Update

WE WILL BE ON FIELD #9. I will be checking the rain out line this afternoon to make sure the fields are open. So stay tuned just in case.
